Did you apply for Startmate and miss out? Perhaps you want to give a startup a go but are not quite sure how to make the move.
Australian startup accelerator Startmate is calling for applications from developers and designers to take part in its Trump Cards program. The three month program is designed to give people a taste of the Startmate program and experience working for an early-stage company.
Startmate founder Niki Scevak says the accelerator is looking to recruit three or four people to work with the current Startmate companies.
“There are all these people to talk about their good ideas, but don’t start anything for whatever reason,” says Scevak. “Or perhaps they have worked on a startup but have struggled to get it off the ground.”
Designers and developers selected to take part in the program will be offered a $6,000 payment to cover living expenses during the three months. Following the program, there may be an opportunity to join one of the cohort companies in an ongoing role.
“They’ll be exposed at the very least to this startup community. Overall it’s just to get more people doing startups.”
Successful applicants will need to relocate to Sydney for the duration of the program.
“Hopefully, they’ll have a better insight and maybe through the network they’ll even find a co-founder. I tried to design it in this way, as people describe this risk of failure — you can always go back to your job after three months.”
Applications close on Friday 22 Febuary, after which shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview with Startmate mentors and companies.
