Phil Morle

Biography

Hi, I'm Phil. I founded Pollenizer with Mick at the start of 2008 and I head up the Product and Engineering practice here.

I learned my trade as the CTO of Kazaa for 5 years. During this time I steered the business through acquiring a few hundred million users and a spectacular legal battle with the record industry. I believe that during this time we were part of defining what is now a mainstream way of consuming media on the internet. This job also gave me and the team a head start in understanding what is now called 'user-generated-content' and the different approach this requires to run a web business.

I am one of the founder members of the Data Portability initiative and I am generally committed to open source, Creative Commons licensing and network neutrality. I am passionate (addicted?) to starting web businesses.

If I work with your business you'll hear me talking a lot about focus and process. I know these things sound obvious, but executing upon them is bloody hard. I'll help you connect your business with your technology.

Since Kazaa I have helped to launch a number of web businesses including Posse (Australia, UK, US), MoGeneration (Australia), 99dresses (Australia) and Spreets (Australia) as well as advised a number of web and media companies including BBC (UK), Local.ch (Switzerland), Linqia (Spain), Naspers (South Africa), GetPrice (Australia), Booking Angel (Australia).

I come from a background of 'getting-things-done' and build businesses around the resources I have. If you need to extend the runway before funding runs out, I can help. I am a practitioner of a lean startup way of working - a process which tightly connects business with tech through tight, small, measurable iterations powered by automation.

When I'm not on Skype calls and answering emails, I am playing with my kidz, adding bits to my house and doing the gardening. If I only had time, I'd be making electronic music... but I don't.
