Sydney Can’t Be a Global Startup Powerhouse

This was the question I put to the audience at Sydstart on Monday.

Lots of people are trying, lots of progress is being made, but are we kidding ourselves.

1. We can’t beat the Valley
2. We can’t be bigger than China
3. We can’t have more mobiles than Indonesia
4. We won’t get as much govt support as Singapore.
5. etc etc (see below)

I kicked off a few ideas;

1. Startup Political Party – let’s get someone elected to Senate or Legislative Assembly.
2. Short Poppy acquires Tall poppy – let’s change the culture to lacking ambition being frowned upon.
3. – try this new, advanced, algorithm driven application.
