Third week running in Pollenizer and I am continually learning while doing.
I end up coming to work finding a project that keeps transforming and
materializing to something pretty amazing. This week I was researching
the Australian recruiting market, revising the pro pages details, working
on a feedback form, feeling around with metrics, analyzing the flow of user
experience, improving my understanding of pitching, and even embarrassingly
#flearning to pitch GetListed myself to the pod of great guys.
What was also exciting was I got to use GetListed with two friends in San Jose
and Stockholm. Their feedback was encouraging because they said it was easy
to use, so easy in fact that one of them forgot they had done it. Through this
experience, I’m finding ease of use is critical because this same friend who forgot
is the same person I sent an earlier version where he posted on Facebook how
annoyed he was with me for asking him to use it. Ultimately, great ideas are
worth nothing until they’ve been executed well.
Beyond these learning opportunities, I had an epiphany. Every time I come
to Pollenizer, I’m entering a time warp. Time doesn’t exist here. The daylight
disappears and I realize I need to get home for dinner with my boo.
This internship is one of the few positions I’ve had where I enjoy it so much that
I’m not using the following function to figure out whether I want to stay.
f(x) = t (Time) x P(Paycheck) = where I want to work
Strangely enough, that math just doesn’t compute here. That might partly be
due to it being an unpaid internship, but I think it’s mainly because this is a cool
place to learn and create.
