Before arriving at Pollenizer, I had done some research on Mick Liubinskas (and Phil Morle) for a short presentation we had to give for the university, and I was semi-expecting a pair of new-age tech-renegades since their last gig at Kazaa involved police raids and a whole lot of controversy.

But after a week, I found nothing could be further from the truth. Mick (who would be my supervisor) was softly spoken and enjoyed the melodic refrains of that Swedish super-group ABBA, and was not in fact, bent on world domination. He actually projected an air of focus and expertise that gave direction to the worldly ambitions of the different businesses operating within Pollenizer.

I’ve spent the first few weeks at Pollenizer doing a whole bunch of different things from working on the annual investor report, to seeing a more product-orientated view of things with a week on the Wooboard team. It’s such a dynamic and lively working environment that it’s not hard to see why such creative and innovative new business ideas are turned out on a regular basis. Reading the ‘Lean Startup’ by Eric Ries that was handed out at orientation certainly helped to make sense of what was going on.

I really like the culture that Pollenizer exudes, the idea that failing is not actually failing, but rather an opportunity to learn or #flearn. It makes it much easier to try new things, even if you’re not sure where it will take you or if you’ll succeed. I look forward to what my next few weeks at Pollenizer will hold.
