22 people, 17 startups, a big fat bucket of focus and a great day.
Last Friday I was in Perth to run our first Bootcamp there. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It turned out to be fantastic.
Here are some highlights;
- 17 startups – how fantastic is that.
- 1 VC with a bucket of cash to invest.
- The old guard – Myles and Richard.
- Lots of new faces including a few uni students.
- Everyone, including the VC, got up and pitched straight up – well done – standing up and sharing is not easy.
- There was great collaboration between the companies. Helping and supporting and encouraging.
- Lots of questions. And good ones.
The best part for me was 3pm. Testing time. Stop procrastinating. Stop thinking about it. Stop writing a 40 page business plan no one will read. Stop writing code.
Get out there and talk to customers.
Everyone did it. Whether it was putting out a survey online, calling up the CEO of a few companies or walking out in the street and talking to businesses and consumers.
Tim ran outside and spoke to 10 companies and recorded the results on his hand – minimal viable survey tool! One question to see if there is a problem. And a second question to see if there is value strength – both of them are key to testing a business idea.
Thank you so much to everyone who came and make the event a great day. Whilst the red-eye flight back was painful and awful, I had a fiery ball of enthusiasm to travel with me.
Big thanks to;
- Bree and Jo for oganising.
- Tim Parsons and Richard Giles for promoting.
- Matt MacFarlane for supporting, promoting and buying white board markers (and my brekky and coffee all day…)
- The King St Art Centre – great venue.
Cheers, and I’ll be back.
