Is there any demand for your product?

You plan to sell baby headphones online but you don’t know if anyone will be interested. Plug the terms you think people would use to look for the product into Google’s Keyword tool and you’ll quickly know how many people search for it both locally and worldwide:

Google Keyword Tool

In this case, not many people search for baby headphones online each month. Those local 91 searches a month would equate to 3 searches a day. It’s estimated that only 10% of searchers click on paid ads so if you plan to run an adwords campaign to attract customers you’ll have a maximum potential of 0.3 daily visitors and that’s assuming you got 100% of the advertising clicks. It’s pretty hard to build a business on 0.3 new visitors a day. It doesn’t mean there is no market at all for the product, but it does give you a pretty good idea of the existing demand online.

One thing to note in this example is that I clicked the “Only show ideas closely related to my search term”, that will stop the results showing the volumes for general terms like “headphones”.

Didn’t find any demand, try another search, eventually you’ll find a product that people are looking for and in vast numbers!
